Guatemala Project: An Early Start for Mayan Children

Welcome

An Early Start: Health and Education for Guatemalan Children in Mayan Villages in Lake Atitlan Region - is a joint project with the Nursing and Early Childhood Care and Education(ECCE) programs at Cégep Heritage College.

Thank you for visiting our website.  As we embark on our journey to several Mayan villages in the Lake Atitlan region of Guatemala working with The Guatemala Day Care Project and Clinica Sanjuanerita, we will  try to keep people up to date with our travels.  We will try and post regularly but due to the remote areas that we will be visiting, access to the Internet might be limited. We are set to travel to Guatemala March 2nd - 11th, 2012.

To learn more about us.  Click on the link "About Us".  We are looking forward to sharing our stories and experiences with you.

Guatemala Facts

Language: The official language is Spanish but English is understood in hotels and tourist destinations. Many indigenous languages are also spoken.

Currency: The official currency is the Quetzal (GTQ) divided into 100 centavos. In 2001 the US Dollar became the second official currency alongside the Quetzal and both are accepted. Travelers cheques and major credit cards are accepted, though some more than others. It is recommended to take travelers cheques in US dollars. Cash exchange is easier, but more risky.
